Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), met with Alabi Quadri, a fan of Obi’s who gained widespread attention during the Nigerian presidential campaign of 2023.
During the general elections of 2023, Quadri, who had bravely stood in front of Peter Obi’s campaign van, became a national icon of bravery.
According to sources, the boy rose to fame once more in 2025 after it was revealed that he had been wrongfully imprisoned at Kirikiri Prison on charges of armed robbery and felony.
After disclosing his existing circumstances, Obi instructed attorney Inibehe Effiong to investigate his case.
Quadri was acquitted and released on Thursday by the Apapa Magistrate Court, Court 9, located at Orege, Ajegunle—Sikiru Adagun Courthouse in Lagos, as a result of the legal intervention.
Following his release, the small child said he wanted to go back to school.
Peter Obi revealed on Friday that he had spoken with the youngster and will see to it that his want to go back to school was realized.
The former governor of Anambra State expressed gratitude to everyone who helped secure the young boy’s release and stated that everyone who was involved in Quadri’s unlawful confinement must answer for their actions.
Quadri Yusuf Alabi, the young child whose tale touched us all, was the person I got to meet today. He is now free after suffering from an unfair and unlawful confinement, and I am extremely appreciative of the attorneys lead by @InibeheEffiong who battled for his release as well as @DeleFarotimi and Ms. Hassana Nurudeen, whose unwavering support was crucial in ensuring the young man received justice.

One thing was evident when I listened to Quadri today: his undying commitment to education. His only goal, in spite of all that has happened to him, is to go back to school and finish his education, and I will see to it that he does.
“His perseverance is not only admirable; it is a call to action, and I’m determined to make sure he receives the education he deserves and wants.”
Furthermore, we can’t end with his release. It is necessary to hold those accountable for his unlawful incarceration. We cannot afford to let such crimes go unpunished as we work to create a Nigeria where justice and integrity are valued.
“I want to thank the attorneys and everyone else who stood and never gave up on justice.
In a statement posted on his 𝕏 account, Peter Obi stated, “Together, we will build a Nigeria where education, freedom, rule of law, equity and justice, care and protection of the less privileged in our midst will stand as the foundation of our democracy.”
