Despite Nigeria’s agonizing elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs, former presidential contender Peter Obi has urged the Super Eagles to persevere.
After a tight 1-1 draw over 120 minutes against DR Congo at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Sunday, the Eagles lost 4-3 on penalties, their second straight World Cup qualifying loss.
Reacting in a post on his 𝕏 account on Monday, Obi praised the team’s dedication while acknowledging the emotional toll of the loss.
“Our dear Super Eagles, I know how deeply the outcome yesterday weighs on each of you,” he wrote.
“I recognize the effort, sacrifice, and dedication you put into every game, and you carry the heartbeat of the entire country when you wear the green and white.”
Obi emphasized that the most crucial answer is to rebuild with discipline and attention, urging the players not to let the setback define their future.
“But let this moment not break your spirit,” he remarked. Great teams are characterized by how they handle challenges.
“How we stand, regroup, and rebuild with even more discipline, attention, and readiness is what counts today. I have faith in your ability to rise higher.
The team was reminded by the former governor of Anambra State that there is still widespread confidence in their skills.
“Don’t let today overshadow the greatness of tomorrow,” he wrote. The eagle lifts its wings instead of lowering its head.
“Remain dedicated and keep your heads up.” Nigeria has faith in you, and together we shall rise once more. Super Eagles, keep flying.
