Anambra State Police Command officers have taken into custody a guy in the state who was carrying a pistol concealed in a bag of rice.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson, said this in a statement released in the state capital of Awka on Tuesday.
He said that 25-year-old Enediong Bassey “M,” who was born in Akwa Ibom State’s Ikono LGA, was taken into custody after confessing to being a part of a local vigilante group.
At Nkwelle-Ezunaka, he claims that police officers from 3.3 Police Divisional headquarters, under the command of CSP Emeka Obi, arrested 25-year-old Enediong Bassey “M,” a native of Ikono LGA in Akwa Ibom State, at 6:38 p.m. on November 22, 2024, after receiving reliable information. They also found a pump action gun wrapped in a bag of rice.
The police picture maker further stated that the suspect admitted during questioning that he was a member of a security group or vigilante and that he was on the verge of escaping with the pistol to join his criminal gang for armed robbery and other disloyal crimes.

“In light of the aforementioned and subsequent grievances and unprofessional behavior by certain security groups and vigilante members, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, in accordance with the tenets of Community Policing, reiterates the calls for profiling of security operatives assisting the Police and other security agencies on anti-crime operations to improve safety in the State,” he stated.
For thorough investigations, the CP also ordered the suspect to be transferred right away to the command’s anti-robbery unit.
