Simon Lough, an assistant commissioner of police, has been sworn in as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, according to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali (SAN).
This was revealed in a statement issued by police spokesman Frank Mba on Wednesday in Abuja. Mr. Lough, a prosecutor, is the chief of chambers of the force’s legal branch, according to him.
The officer was sworn in as a SAN following the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee’s recommendations and approval, according to the announcement (LPPC).

The officer was promoted as a result of his remarkable contribution to the growth of law in Nigeria and his enviable achievements in the legal profession, according to the statement.
In the year 2000, Mr. Lough was promoted to the rank of cadet officer (ASP).
“During his 21 years of service, Lough has held national positions on executing legal policies for the country and served in numerous sections of the force, including the legal branch,” according to the police statement. “Among his many services and accomplishments is his record of over one hundred convictions in instances involving armed robbery, murder, rape, and financial crimes, to name a few.”
He had also successfully defended several high-profile cases, receiving 33 decisions at the Court of Appeal and seven at the Supreme Court, according to the statement.

“With his appointment as a SAN, Lough becomes the first serving member of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and any other uniformed agency in the country to achieve this milestone in the legal profession.” The success is a monument to hard work, devotion, and persistence, as well as confirmation of the age-old adage that “hard work pays off,” according to the statement.
