According to the Nigeria Police Force’s Lagos State headquarters, the explosion at an Ikeja store that sold closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras is being looked into.
The explosion happened on Friday around 6:35 p.m. on Kodesho Street, which is in the Computer Village neighborhood of Ikeja, according to a statement released on Saturday in Lagos by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command spokesperson.
The statement states that the explosion site and its environs were secured and roped off as soon as possible after the occurrence by members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, the Mobile Police Detachment, and Conventional Police Teams.
To protect the safety of the local population and to support a comprehensive investigation to determine the source of the explosion, EOD professionals reportedly also carried out a thorough search of the area.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, arrived at the location shortly after the occurrence for a quick evaluation, the spokesperson added.
Lagos citizens are urged by the CP to maintain composure and not panic as investigations are underway to identify the precise cause of the explosion and other potential contributing factors.
“The explosion site and the surrounding area have been made safe and secure, and the public is encouraged to proceed with their lawful activities and businesses in a calm manner without fear or anxiety,” Hundeyin stated.

Five people with various injuries who were inside and outside the store have been rescued and taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for treatment, he said.
The command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security throughout the state was underlined by the spokeswoman.
