Chidi Lloyd, a close associate of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and the former chairman of Rivers State’s Emuoha Local Government Area, has questioned suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s sincerity in attempting to bring about peace in the state’s continuing conflict.
Fubara has not yet met crucial requirements that Wike maintains are required for true reconciliation, according to Lloyd.
The former chairman stated in a speech in Port Harcourt that there would be no point in reconciling if justice was not served.
Fubara’s public apology to elder statesmen, former local government chairmen, members of the State House of Assembly, and Sergeant Awuse, the immediate past chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, was one of the requirements he mentioned.
“Many people—former council chairmen and campaign coordinators for Fubara—are also resentful,” he stated, adding, “people are confused thinking only the minister was wounded in this political crisis.” Therefore, let’s look for true peace rather than peace in the cemetery.
Lloyd cited an eight-point peace deal mediated by President Bola Tinubu at the height of the political strife, which Fubara allegedly breached, to highlight his purported lack of commitment.
“To date, none of Fubara’s followers have shown regret for what they did.
“How can peace be believed if Governor Fubara can break commitments established in front of the Obama administration? To the members of the Assembly whose salaries were withheld for two years, he must provide an apology. He went on to say, “Pursuit of peace is necessary; it is not just about the Minister.”
