Senator Ita Enang has declared that Akwa Ibom State is predominantly an All Progressives Congress (APC) stronghold, despite being governed by a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration.

Enang expressed confidence that the APC would demonstrate its strength by securing victory in the upcoming local government elections on October 5.

Speaking in Uyo on Tuesday, Enang discussed the APC’s preparations for the local government elections, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje spearheading the campaign activities for the council elections at Ikot Ekpene on Wednesday.

He said, “Akwa Ibom is APC, though unfortunately controlled by the PDP government, which we respect as being in charge, but we are superior. We aim to showcase our majority and capacity in the upcoming LG elections.”

Enang criticized the current performance of local governments in Akwa Ibom, citing their failure to effectively manage road construction, education, agriculture, and land matters. “That is why we have intensified our efforts, confident that we will win the majority of the elections, possibly conceding a few to PDP out of respect.”

Enang noted, “While it has been common for the ruling party to win all local government elections, we are hopeful that Governor Umo Eno will honor his commitment to a free and fair election, which has not always been the case in past elections.”

He expressed skepticism about the impartiality of Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC). Enang remarked, “Despite our doubts about the AKISIEC chairman’s past conduct, we hope the governor will ensure a fair election process, leading to the emergence of the best candidates.”

Enang also addressed internal party conflicts, stating, “A Reconciliation Committee under my leadership has worked to unite most of the aggrieved members. Although not all issues have been resolved, efforts are ongoing to bring everyone together”.
