According to Simi Drey, an award-winning British-Nigerian actress and presenter, she called off her engagement to her ex-lover.

While discussing her relationship and marriage that ended in divorce, Simi revealed this in a recent episode of the WithChude podcast.

After becoming engaged, the actress revealed that she discovered she wasn’t completely content or satisfied, which is why she made the decision.

The media personality claimed that following the cancellation, she received criticism.

“I didn’t have a flawless connection with my ex. He was never abusive and he never cheated. But you can tell when you’re not quite content or happy. In our region of the world, marriage is highly valued, particularly for women. Although my parents never put any pressure on me, I can recall my friends asking me, “When are you getting married?”

He eventually made a proposal. I recall being concerned, “Is he really the person I am going to marry?” Mom and I had a tight relationship. She advised me, “Simi, don’t do this,” after I told her I was engaged. Still, I assured her that everything was OK.

My mother is not the kind of person who would ever forbid me from doing something or put me on a blacklist. However, she was aware that I didn’t feel whole in the relationship. I ended the call with tears of anxiety rather than happiness after calling my father.

I called my fiancé two months later and suggested that we focus on improving our relationship before considering marriage.

After a month, I decided I didn’t want to wed this man because I wanted to marry someone who was worthy. I broke off our engagement. People around me also started criticizing me more, but I had to tell myself that I wasn’t content in the relationship.

Reality struck me after I departed. I came to see that being happy and single is preferable to being miserable and wedded. If a man’s rank or wealth make me feel inferior, or if I don’t feel appreciated, then the answer is no.
