Plans to provide special train services during the forthcoming Christmas and New Year’s celebrations have been announced by the Bola Tinubu-led administration through the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
NRC’s Deputy Director of Public Relations, Yakub Mahmood, announced on the company’s official X account Thursday that the services will operate on scheduled passenger trains in accordance with a decision from the Federal Government via the Ministry of Transportation.
According to the NRC, the additional rail services will reduce traffic over the holidays.
Although the company has not yet disclosed the precise dates and times of the services, it promised passengers that further information would be provided shortly.
“The government’s gesture towards a fun end-of-year celebration is this special train service on scheduled passenger trains,” the statement said.
As part of its festive greetings, the NRC wished travelers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance.

In 2023, the Federal Government implemented a 50% fee cut for interstate travel and provided free train services throughout the holidays. This year’s plan builds on that effort.
Many hailed these policies, which were in effect from December 21, 2023, until January 7, 2024, as a prompt solution to the economic difficulties Nigerians were facing.
The success of the NRC’s special holiday services in 2024 is anticipated to be repeated, offering Nigerians easy and affordable travel options over the holiday season.
