Super Eagles legend, John Utaka has advised Victor Osimhen to consider joining Real Madrid should Jose Mourinho take the managerial reins at the La Liga giants and request the Nigerian striker.

Osimhen is in the final months of his second season with Galatasaray after helping the club to its 26th league title.

The forward has scored 15 goals and laid on five assists in 22 league games this season, further enhancing his reputation as one of Europe’s most wanted strikers.

Interest in the 25-year-old has not gone away, with speculation emerging in each of the last three summer transfer windows.

New reports from Spain suggest that Mourinho, currently coach of Benfica, is in talks with Real Madrid over a possible return to the Santiago Bernabéu.

The Portuguese coach is seen as a man who can bring stability to the dressing room after a difficult season under Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa.

Madrid may have to look for a new centre-forward with major squad rebuilding and Utaka believes Osimhen would fit perfectly under Mourinho.

“If I were Osimhen I would go because if Mourinho has asked for him it means he really wants him. “Osimhen is looking to win trophies and Real Madrid is a perfect fit,” Utaka told Brila.

Mourinho has been watching Osimhen’s progress for years. The two met in Serie A with Mourinho in charge of AS Roma when the forward was playing for Napoli. The coach has previously compared the Nigerian to Didier Drogba but has also taken issue with aspects of his game.

Osimhen’s future is unclear with Barcelona also keeping tabs on his situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Catalan club are apparently looking at him as a possible alternative to Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, who is apparently valued at around €200m.

But Galatasaray are reluctant to sell and have reportedly slapped a €150m price tag on the striker as they brace for increased interest.
