The Hope Uzodimma-led administration’s plan to celebrate the airlift of the pilgrims with a party and spend an astounding ₦2.1 billion on the journey has been denounced by the Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The party contended that there is no reason why the government should spend tax dollars on a program that only serves 315 people and throw a lavish reception to welcome Vice President Kashim Shettima in connection with the pilgrims’ airlift.
In an Owerri statement, PDP spokesman Lancelot Obiaku called the gesture a waste of money, particularly in light of the nation’s escalating security threats and economic suffering brought on by the country’s skyrocketing inflation rate.
The incident happened a day after armed attackers besieged the settlements of Umuna and Okigwe in Onuimo LGA, killing at least 20 people, kidnapping others, and burning more than 22 vehicles, he bemoaned, making it even more concerning and unsettling.
In addition to demanding Uzodimma’s resignation, he accused him of egregious ineptitude.
“We vehemently condemn the fact that Governor Uzodimma frequently acts as though he is not an Imolite, consistently reluctant to offer leadership or express empathy over the harrowing challenges of insecurity, poverty, and lack of basic amenities confronting the people of Imo State,” the statement includes in part.

The governor should have acted quickly in response to the threat posed by suspected Fulani terrorists in Ngor Okpala, as the area has become a stronghold for the ruthless criminals.
This reinforces the somber stories coming out of the LGAs of Okigwe, Orsu, Njaba, Onuimo, Oru West, and Orlu, where criminal elements have taken over communities and are still terrorizing defenseless civilians.
Imo can’t put up with a governor who is inept and a government that doesn’t care about the suffering of its people. For this reason, the Imo PDP urges Ndi Imo to band together in order to hold this administration completely responsible at this pivotal juncture in our state’s history.
