In response to the unfortunate death of Yusfat Ayinde, a 42-year-old e-hailing driver, who was violently stabbed by unidentified attackers on Friday, the Lagos State branch of the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria has expressed its sorrow.
The union’s head, Jaiyesinmi Azeez, confirmed the event to PUNCH Metro on Monday, saying that Ayinde was on duty at the time of the ambush.
When the driver arrived at the agreed-upon location after receiving a ride request via the e-hailing app, a gang of thugs attacked him, Azeez claimed.
Before escaping with his car, the attackers fatally stabbed Ayinde, he said.
According to him, “Comrade Yusfat Olawale Ayinde is our member and the administrator of a state-wide organization of professional chauffeurs.” He was sadly killed in a vicious attack that was started by unknown attackers. We discovered that Ayinde was attacked by a group of thugs who had requested him after he arrived at the agreed-upon place after receiving a ride request via the e-hailing app. Following Ayinda’s deadly stabbing, the attackers took his car.

According to reports, his remains were left at Ikeja on Agidingbi Road before being transported to the morgue.
Azeez expressed worries about e-hailing drivers’ safety and demanded more security measures in the industry.
In addition, he said that the union had established a task team to investigate the murder’s circumstances.
He stated: “The task force is actively collaborating with the family and other authorities to collect information and determine which app was used to make the transportation request. Attempts are underway to find the attackers and prosecute them.
“The task force will leverage technology to track the attackers and improve investigative efforts in coordination with law enforcement.”
According to Azeez, there are currently talks to put in place extra safety precautions for e-hailing drivers, including as emergency response systems and heightened monitoring in high-risk regions.
“During this terrible time, the union will keep helping Ayinda’s family and make sure they get the support they need.” In addition to making sure that justice is done, the Auaton Lagos State Task Force is dedicated to taking action to stop similar tragedies from happening again. He said, “As the investigation develops, more updates will be given.”
The Lagos State Police Command detained David Segun, a 21-year-old US returnee, and two other people for reportedly killing an Uber driver in the Obalende neighborhood. This is a connected development.
When the suspects were paraded at the state command headquarters on January 12, Commissioner of Police Ishola Olanrewaju disclosed that Segun and his accomplices, Samuel Ariori (21), Lukman Ariori (19), and Emeka Akwara (19), had ordered an Uber ride from Chevron in Lekki to Obalende at midnight on Thursday, January 9.
Upon reaching a desolate neighborhood in Obalende, he claimed, the suspects robbed the Uber driver and fatally stabbed him many times in the neck.
