The spokesman for President Bola Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga, has come under fire from Frank Shaibu, the former vice president’s special assistant on public communication, for praising his principal over the national honors after his role in securing democracy and fighting to have the June 12 election results revoked.
In response to Onanuga’s 𝕏 tweet, Shaibu reportedly reminded him of his support for speaking truth to power and opposing military oppression.
However, Atiku’s aide pointed out that Onanuga has chosen to back a government whose policies mirror the oppression he previously opposed, rather than continuing on the honorable road of speaking up for the people.
Shaibu claims that Onanuga makes fun of Nigerians’ suffering, justifies it, and fabricates propaganda for a government that can rule without consequence.
Atiku’s adviser pointed out that although Onanuga initially supported the battle for democracy, he has subsequently switched sides.

He composed, “Dear Bayo, Through Tempo and TheNews, you might have participated in the media resistance during the June 12 conflict. You challenged authority and opposed military tyranny. You used to have a place among the champions of democracy because of that. However, you no longer follow that honorable path today.
Instead of speaking for the people, you now support a government whose policies mirror the identical oppression you used to support. You support laws that increase poverty, justify incapacity, and make dictatorship possible. You manufacture propaganda for a government that rules with impunity, make fun of Nigerians’ pain, and justify their misery. The purpose of June 12 was not that.
Do you really deserve to be recognized as a June 12 hero, I ask?
June 12 was more than just a date; it was a day of moral revolt. The people’s will, patriot sacrifice, and defiance of tyranny were all at stake. Those who are worthy of wearing its emblem must uphold its principles both during and after the conflict, when power is tempted and the truth becomes inconvenient.
Is it possible to include a man who now supports injustice among the oppressed? Can the altar of justice honor someone who justifies injustice?
