Dr. Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, has urged people who quit the Labour Party for various reasons to rejoin.
At a one-day high-level strategic multi-level stakeholders summit titled Reuniting the Labour Party Family: consolidating strength for sustainable political impact, which was held at the party’s national Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, the Governor was represented by Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) worked together to organize the meeting.
Under Abia’s leadership, the state has proven that the Labour Party is more than just an election platform; it is a vehicle for purpose, governance, accountability, and people-centered development, the governor said.
He stated that the party’s ability to carry out this same goal at the national level is demonstrated by the advancements being achieved in the areas of physical discipline, institutional reforms, infrastructure renovation, and service delivery.
But we also have to admit that internal peace is necessary for long-term political success. The goal of reunifying the party is to increase communication, fortify existing structures, foster trust, and make sure that all parties—from ward level to the national leadership—feel heard and respected.
On the path to 2027, we must start right away to strengthen our structures, revalidate our membership and mobilize the grassroots, form strategic partnerships with forward-thinking individuals who share our vision, invest in women’s and youth participation as key factors in electoral success, encourage internal democracy, transparency, and discipline, and effectively and consistently inform the public of our accomplishments.
We must be aware that Abia State serves as an example for the country, and that the Labour Party is responsible for this advancement. We have to keep in mind that we are not alone,” he stated.
According to the governor, the summit must thus result in concrete resolutions rather than only proposals.
Let’s depart with a well-defined plan, assigned tasks, and quantifiable deadlines. Additionally, he remarked, “Let’s resolve internal misunderstandings through dialogue rather than division.”
At this point, we are inviting our brothers who lost the lawsuits to join the Labour Party so that we can start over.
The values of social inclusion, productivity, equity, and justice served as the foundation for the Labour Party. No opposition strategy or realignment can lessen our influence if we stick to these values.
