Conflicting claims made by opposing political factions regarding purported backing from Bola Ahmed Tinubu prior to the 2026 governorship race have given rise to a new political crisis in Osun State.
Ademola Adeleke’s followers and those associated with Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor, as well as associates of previous governor Adegboyega Oyetola, are at the center of the controversy.
Speaking on behalf of Bola Oyebamiji, the AMBO Media Fronts denied that President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke had any kind of alliance.
According to a statement released by AMBO Media Fronts Coordinator Adebayo Adedeji, the group called these reports “false and misleading.”
“The President would not support the re-election of the incumbent governor,” it asserted.
“Oyebamiji remains a loyal party member with a track record in public service,” it contended. His employment with the National Inland Waterways Authority serves as proof of his administrative aptitude.
Concerns over Osun State’s governance, especially funding policies for education and the state of specific projects, were also voiced by the AMBO Media Fronts, who claimed that there were implementation gaps.
Accord Media Center, which supports Governor Ademola Adeleke, responded to him by emphasizing the governor’s acceptance and popularity among important demographic groupings in the state.
In a statement, the Accord Media Center denounced former governor Adegboyega Oyetola and Bola Oyebamiji for activities that it claimed might humiliate the President and widen rifts within the All Progressives Congress.
The group said that the minister’s and the APC candidate’s divisive and irascible behavior was undermining party unity in the state.
“Internal disagreements within the APC had led to dissatisfaction among party members, alleging that the imposition of candidates had alienated some stakeholders,” the statement continued.
“Those who genuinely support the President have moved beyond internal disputes and are aligning with the preference of the people of Osun,” according to the Accord Media Center.
According to the group, Governor Adeleke has broad grassroots support from a variety of groups, including labor unions, craftspeople, students, and farmers.
Adeleke is still a strong candidate in the next August 15, 2026 election, according to political analyses and reports that it deemed credible.
Additionally, the statement asked Oyetola and Oyebamiji, the former governor, to “refrain from conduct that could portray the President in a negative light.”
