Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu read separate letters of defection on the floor of the House during plenary to announce the defections.

This comes after the plenary session started up again after the Easter break.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost five members, one lawmaker left the Labour Party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost two members.

Kalu said that the defections across party lines show that Nigeria is not moving toward a one-party state.

“This is to show the country that no party is being held back. People are leaving the majority party for the minority parties and the minority parties for the majority party. He said, “This is the beauty of democracy.”

Thaddeus Attah, who represents Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos State, left the Labour Party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a letter of resignation.

He said he made the choice because of the long-running leadership crisis in the LP.

Abubakar Abdul from Niger State left the PDP for the APC, Yakubu Noma from Kebbi State left the PDP for the ADC, and Ibrahim Mohammed from Kebbi State moved from the PDP to the APC.

Mudashiru Alani (Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa) and Adetunji Olusoji (Odo-Otin/Ifelodun/Boripe) left the PDP for the Accord Party in Osun State.

According to Naija News, David Fuoh (Taraba) left the APC to join the PDP, and Bashir Zubair (Kaduna) left the APC to join the ADC.

Even after the most recent changes, the APC still has more members in the House.

The House, on the other hand, put off the plenary session until Wednesday in honor of Hassan Danjuma, a Kano lawmaker who died on April 10, 2026, at the age of 66.
