The country’s main seaports in Lagos have received no fewer than 12 ships delivering fuel, crude oil, fertilizer, and other necessities, indicating a rise in import activity and better cargo movement throughout the maritime industry.
The vessels are presently waiting to discharge goods at the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Apapa Port, and Tin-Can Island Port, according to the most recent “Shipping Position” published by the Nigerian Ports Authority.
According to the agency, among other goods essential to Nigeria’s manufacturing, energy, and agricultural sectors, the ships are loaded with petrol, bulk fertilizer, base oil, fuel oil, gasoline, crude oil, and bulk urea.
The development coincides with ongoing initiatives to boost industrial productivity, stabilize fuel supply, and increase cargo throughput at the biggest ports in the country.
The NPA further disclosed that between May 7 and May 15, roughly 34 more ships bringing food, petroleum products, and other goods are anticipated to reach the ports in Lagos.
The paper states that buckwheat, containers, fresh fish, crude oil, bulk wheat, bitumen, base oil, bulk sugar, gasoline, diesel, and miscellaneous commodities are being transported by the arriving vessels.
The shipping schedule also revealed a rise in container traffic, which is indicative of the ports’ expanding commercial and import operations.
In the meantime, the ports are currently receiving a variety of cargoes from at least 26 ships.
Containers, petrol, aviation fuel, crude oil, bulk gypsum, cargo trucks, bulk wheat, bulk urea, fresh seafood, and bulk gas are among the goods being offloaded.
Supply pressures in important industries, such petroleum distribution, agriculture, and food processing, may be lessened by the consistent flow of ships into Lagos ports, according to industry observers.
Port operations, logistics services, and government revenue from import activities are all anticipated to benefit from an increase in vessel traffic.
