Three-storey building collapses in Lagos State’s Alakija area, several feared trapped (photos)
It was gathered that the building reportedly collapsed around 11:40 a.m. near the Alakija axis inward Satellite Town causing panic among residents and passersby in the area.
The number of people believed to be under the rubble could not be confirmed immediately by Leadership.
Anxious residents gathered in a crowd near the scene, watching as the rescue efforts began.
Witnesses said many people rushed to the scene trying to help before emergency officials arrived.
The first security personnel to reach the location were police officers from the Area E Command and the Satellite Division.
They joined residents in efforts to rescue people trapped under the collapsed structure.
Search and rescue operations are now under way as authorities try to locate and evacuate victims from the debris.
Emergency teams expect the operation to continue until all trapped are accounted for.
No official confirmation has been received as of filing of this report on the number of casualties or injuries in relation to the collapse.
The cause of the incident was also unknown at the time of reporting.
