Many Nigerians have reacted to the statement by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu that small businesses such as akara, roasted corn, kuli-kuli require little capital to start.

In a viral video, Remi reportedly told journalists that the administration was supporting small businesses with money in grants and not loans.

“Starting akara business doesn’t take a lot of money,” she said. It doesn’t take much to get to roasting corn or kuli-kuli. We didn’t give them a loan, we gave them a grant. We have been encouraging Nigerians in all ways we can. “I also turned to several others.”

However, Remi’s comment angered many netizens who argued that the remarks were insulting and did not reflect or address the economic challenges facing many Nigerians. @whokantakulaya wrote: “We don’t want you to give just help create a society where the bare minimum can be affordable Ma , where Norms are Norms, just the bare minimum and we good.” @Susan wrote: “This is an insult to Nigerians and these people needs to be put in their places! “Make the country ungovernable for them”.DedeHydra wrote, “This is your fault, Nigerians from different tribes and religions. You see what a First Lady is saying to your mothers, wives and daughters. “If you don’t vote them out, she and Tinubu is going to increase your suffering by 7 times.”YanaOffycial commented: “Now it’s clear. The husband don corrupt the wife finish.” Nothing is left again. I swear to God, it will be disastrous if these people come back for the second term.” @PoliticalPhoenix wrote: “Remi Tinubu giving small grants for akara and roasted corn while her husband’s policies have destroyed millions of businesses and pushed Nigerians into extreme poverty? This is not hope, it is crumbs from the table they broke. Fuel prices, inflation and hardship are still unbearable. “PR grants aren’t what Nigerians need. They need real economic recovery.” @whokantakulaya wrote: “Buh wetin dey always funny me na those behind dem shake dem head. So now Ma how many people for Yankee their government Dey empower to start Akara and roasted corn business . When fuel increase them say na e be for yankee . Ma e de jor, please be reasonable Ma.” @Solomon_Sire wrote “Nigerians are just greedy people, someone gave out all these billions as grant and you people still couldn’t make the best use of it. “Nigerians can’t be helped, this current Government has helped take out more people out of poverty and they deserve our votes for second term.” @Un2say1 said: “Even after the so called useless advice of Akara and boli investment, KAI and CBD officials will still come after them when they start the petty business.”
