The Nigeria Police Force’s Benue State command has announced the murder of Saater Aii, a wanted man who was suspected of carrying out separate attacks against Mr. Aondoakaa Yayol, the commander of the Tarka Local Government Hunters, and his wife, Mrs. Kashimana Yayol.
In a statement provided to reporters in Makurdi, the state capital, on Monday, October 20, DSP Udeme Edet, the command’s spokeswoman, reported the news.
After he opened fire during an attempt to detain him, Edet said the suspect, who had been evading capture for more than a year, was killed in a gunfight with police officers.
The statement said that Aii had gone into hiding following the murders in Wannune, the Tarka Local Government Area headquarters, but had lately returned to plot new attacks.
Credible evidence showed that the suspect had secretly returned to Makurdi on October 18, 2025, with preparations to carry out additional assaults, Edet stated.
She clarified that detectives were sent out right away to find him in the vicinity of George Akume Way in Makurdi.

According to the police spokesperson, Aii was shot during the altercation and treated at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), but it was subsequently determined that he had died.
Edet said, “His body has since been placed in the hospital mortuary.”
One AK-47 rifle, one locally made short gun, many 7.62mm live rounds, and seven SIM cards that may have been stolen were among the goods found on the suspect, according to reports.
The discovered firearms and evidence were being handled for additional investigation, Edet continued.
Ifeanyi Emenari, the State Commissioner of Police, praised the officers for their prompt action and advised the populace to refrain from engaging in illegal activity.
Additionally, he urged the public to be on guard and report any suspicious activity to the local police station or other security organizations.
Edet restated the Command’s dedication to preserving the state’s peace and security.
“The Command is committed to making sure that everyone in Benue State is safe and secure,” she stated.
