The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has completely denied reports that it is talking to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) about using the platform for the 2027 elections.
Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, said on Monday that the party is not in any talks with any other party about what might happen before the expected court ruling.
He said that the leaders of the coalition have no plans to get rid of the ADC, so those reports should be ignored.
We have heard a rumor that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is talking to another political party, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), about what to do after the court rules.
“We want to make it clear that this is not true.
“The coalition leadership is not talking to any political party about this right now.
“We are completely dedicated to making sure that the illegal actions taken against our leaders by INEC and other agents of the ruling party are overturned. We think this is the only way to protect the rule of law and keep multiparty democracy alive in Nigeria.
“We are open to adding more groups to the coalition to bring all of the country’s opposition groups together to save our country, but we are clear about the duty that this moment has placed on us. We will not give up that duty.
So, any suggestion that we are thinking about getting rid of the ADC is premature and should be ignored.
“Even though democratic institutions are being blatantly abused, the ADC leadership still believes that the judicial institutions will, at this crucial time, resist the pressure to help destroy Nigeria’s democracy,” he wrote.
The clarification came after PRP National Chairman Hakeem Baba Ahmed said that several opposition politicians had asked the party to work with them before the 2027 general elections.
In the last three to four weeks, he says, a number of politicians have contacted the party about joining.
Ahmed said on Arise News that the party is open to anyone who wants to join, including leaders of the African Democratic Coalition (ADC).
