The Nigerian government has called an emergency meeting of stakeholders for April 22, 2026, to stop the planned rise in airfare and the closure of airlines in Nigeria because of a 300% rise in aviation fuel known as JetA1.
Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, wrote a letter to airline operators on April 16, 2026, to let them know this.

Keyamo promised airline operators that the Nigerian government would step in to stop the industry from going under.
“I want to officially reassure you that the federal government is fully aware of the concerns raised by your members and will take immediate action to fix the problems.
