The APC primary for Cross River Central was rejected by two prominent All Progressives Congress candidates, who said it was rigged to disenfranchise thousands of party members from the 66 wards of the senatorial district and install a favored candidate.
Speaking before a crowd of supporters in Ikom, Senators Eteng Jonas Williams and Mary Ekpere asked for the immediate cancelation of the primary that was held earlier that day, calling it “flawed and illegitimate.”
According to Eteng, “the process was compromised from the start.” He charged that party officials employed an unapproved panel that was “deliberately constituted to influence the outcome” and withheld electoral materials.
Supporters found vacant venues when they came to ward and local government collation centers, according to Eteng. He said that voting locations were abruptly altered overnight.
He claimed, “This was a deliberate attempt by powerful party figures to stifle participation and impose a predetermined outcome.”
In an attempt to exclude her from the competition, Ekpere claimed that her name was subtly switched from the Cross River Central list to the Cross River North list.

“The state chapter took that action to make room for a preferred candidate of the state government,” she claimed.
The APC national secretariat allegedly excluded Oden Ewa due to clearance concerns and mandated that all results be submitted to Abuja for validation, which both candidates claimed the primary disregarded.
“We are all APC members who contributed to the party’s survival during its challenging years,” Ekpere stated. “Oden Ewa’s selective treatment in spite of his disqualification is intolerable. Governor Otu must prevent the party from being undermined by self-serving motives.
At the event, supporters cautioned that the party might become divided before the general elections if the objections were ignored. They called on the national leadership of the APC to step in, enforce discipline, and reinstate internal democracy.
According to one speaker, “any perceived compromise of party supremacy could trigger protest votes and weaken the party’s electoral chances.”
The accusations have not yet received a response from the APC state chapter. Additionally, the national secretariat has not responded to the cancellation request.
