Bilyaminu Moriki, the speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, and twelve other legislators have left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Following the presentation of resignation letters on behalf of the lawmakers, Moriki announced the defection during Monday’s Gusau plenary.
This comes after Governor Dauda Lawal recently defected from the PDP to the APC.
The governor and the lawmakers who defected will be formally welcomed into the APC on Tuesday, March 24.
Chief Whip Rilwanu Nagambo (Anka Constituency), Majority Leader Bello Mazawaje (Tsafe East Constituency), and Deputy Speaker Adamu Aliyu (Gummi II Constituency) are among those who deserted.
According to Moriki, the choice was made in order to support the governor and advance state development.
He stated, “Our decision is aimed at encouraging smooth collaboration between the state and the federal governments.”
The APC now fully controls the Zamfara State House of Assembly as a result of the defection.
