After bandits kidnapped Reverend Father Markus Samari from his home in the Kuse-Gudu community, tension erupted in Kagarko Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
According to reports, one Emmanuel Yaro was shot and killed during the assault.
Salihu Mahmud, a local, told reporters that the gunmen broke into the Reverend’s house on Sunday at 5:37 p.m., just after he got home from church, according to Daily Trust.
According to Mahmud, the cleric was taken away at gunpoint after two armed men broke into his home.
“The Reverend had just returned from church when the bandits struck and whisked him away at gunpoint, according to one of the Reverend’s relatives, who is my neighbor here in Kagarko town,” he stated.
According to locals, the assailants came in big numbers with advanced firearms. They allegedly entered the residence while other gang members ringed the area, deliberately targeting the cleric.
The kidnapping was also confirmed by a neighborhood leader who requested anonymity due to security concerns.
He told reporters, “I got a call from one of the victim’s relatives on Sunday night at around seven o’clock that bandits had broken into the Reverend Father’s home and taken him away.”
He also stated that he notified the soldiers stationed at Kagarko town’s gate right away.
It was discovered that the kidnapping occurred just a day after gunmen broke into a Fulani settlement in Sabon-Kurutu village and stole many cows.
According to reports, the attackers came on motorcycles, firing intermittently and making the herders run for their lives.
While confirming both incidences, a Kagarko police source referred reporters to the Kaduna State Police Command headquarters for formal remarks.
However, as of the time this story was filed, ASP Hassan Mansur, the Command’s spokeswoman, had not yet confirmed the occurrence.
