The national assembly has been urged to expedite the current constitution revision process by the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria (CSSLN).
Adebo Ogundoyin, the chairman of the CSSLN, stated during the 2025 national assembly open week in Abuja on Wednesday that a prompt conclusion of the process will enable the implementation of revisions prior to the subsequent general election.
He said, “We respectfully ask the national assembly to maintain the momentum that is currently being generated by the constitutional review process.”
“The impact and relevance of the reforms could be diminished if this momentum is lost, even if it is unintended.”

State legislatures are prepared to work with the national assembly to make sure the review takes into account Nigerians’ desires, according to Ogundoyin, who is also the speaker of the Oyo house of assembly.
He praised the national assembly for continuing the open week program, characterizing it as a forum that encourages openness, inclusivity, and democratic participation.
The speaker also emphasized the need of inter-legislative cooperation, noting that the independence and vitality of legislative institutions at all levels are essential to democratic stability.

Ogundoyin expressed hope that the gathering would result in more in-depth discussions and solutions that would fortify Nigeria’s legal system.
“We completely agree with the principles of accountability, transparency, and participatory governance. We are prepared to work together as a Conference to make sure the review process takes Nigerians’ desires into account,” he continued.
