The Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) Ogun Area Command reported on Tuesday that it had seized at least three single-barreled long guns, 100 cartridges, 150 sacks of India hemp, and 7,242 bags of rice at various points throughout the state.
Mohammed Shuaibu, the Customs Area Controller, revealed this at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko during a news conference for the first quarter of 2025.
Other seizures, according to Shuaibu, include 22 vehicles used to transport the contraband, four used vehicles, ten cartons of Amoxicillin capsules, twenty bags of imported sugar, 534 booklet-sized cannabis sativa, two cowry sacks, 843 pieces of used pneumatic tires, and 535 kegs of 25-liter PMS, among other items.
He said that they were intercepted in Abeokuta axis, Ilaro and Ipokia/ Idiroko region of the state with its cumulative duty paid value (DPV) amounting to N314 million.
The Comptroller clarified that the previous three months had been devoted to cooperating, merging, coordinating, and communicating with significant stakeholders both domestically and internationally in order to guarantee seamless and lawful trade while enforcing government fiscal policies against smuggling operations.
According to Shuaibu, 161 seizures were made as a result of the Command’s aggressive, intelligence-based anti-smuggling operations. These consist of: three long guns with a single barrel; four 25-cartridge packets (100 pieces of cartridges); 150 sacks of India hemp in different sizes; ten cartons of amoxicillin capsules; and seven and twenty-two bags of foreign parboiled rice (we confiscated 900 bags of rice yesterday alone).

22 vehicles (means of transportation), 20 bags of imported sugar, 20 bags of flour powder, 50 bags of POP cement, 4 used cars, 534 booklet-sized cannabis sativa, 239 bread-sized cannabis sativa, 2,926 coconut-sized cannabis sativa, 2 sacks of cowries, 12 cartons of Ghana soap, 843 pieces of used pneumatic tires, and 535 kegs of PMS, each containing 25 liters (13,375 liters).
“Three hundred and fourteen million fifty seven thousand seven hundred and sixteen naira (N 314, 057,716) was the cumulative duty paid value (DPV) for all of the aforementioned seizures.”
According to him, the seized Cannabis Sativa has since been turned over to Commander NDLEA in Abeokuta, while N43 million was made from import duties and the sale of the intercepted gasoline at auction.
Shuaibu encouraged the public to refrain from engaging in any illegal trade that may harm the economy and damage their reputation, even as he assured them of the command’s ongoing support in all facets of their commercial operations.
For the benefit of the country’s progress, he urged well-meaning and patriotic Nigerians to assist the service by supplying helpful information against economic sabotage.
