Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former Vice Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) has explained why he did not align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reacting to the backlash that greeted his decision.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, he admitted that many people reacted strongly after hearing that he would not be joining the party. He said he felt the need to clear the air as some people misunderstood his reasons and believed his decision was meant to offend party members.
He said he made his choice based on his own plans and careful thinking about his political path, it was reported. He said the decision was not made out of any anger, or dislike, or disrespect for the party or anyone associated with it.
He also pointed out that political decisions can be complex and are usually made after considering a number of factors that might not always be obvious to the public.
He said: “I’m really sorry, I’m not able to join the ADC and it’s nothing personal. “I gave my reasons why I didn’t join them, a lot of them took offense, a lot of them took it personal and I apologize.”
The former Senator has meanwhile concluded plans to ditch the Labour Party (LP) and join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
He said the decision to defect to the PRP was as a result of internal wrangling within the Labour Party which he said had drifted away from its founding ideals
