On Sunday, a tanker exploded on the Ihiala-Onitsha Road in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra, directly across from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) headquarters, killing two people.
The incidence was reported to journalists in Awka by Mrs. Bridget Asekhauno, Sector Commander (FRSC) in Anambra.
According to Asekhauno, the event featured a motorcycle without a registration number and a commercial truck carrying combustible material that was not registered.
Witnesses stated that the speeding tanker driver lost control and collided with a roadside barricade prior to an explosion that also damaged a motorcycle that was following.
Both the tanker driver and his conductor perished in the explosion, although the motorcyclist was hurt and eventually saved.
Two people were killed in the collision involving three male adults, and one injured person was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala for medical attention.
The sector commander clarified that FRSC rescue workers and fire service personnel arrived on the scene quickly and put out the fire using effective methods.
She offered condolences to the relatives of the dead and advised drivers to drive carefully and attentively in order to avoid preventable collisions.
