Nollywood actor Emeka Okoye has said that he has lost a number of acting opportunities in the film industry due to his body size.
The actor, who started his career in 1999, claimed that due of his plump looks, producers frequently passed him over for specific roles.
In an interview with the Saturday Sun, he clarified that this had occurred several times.
He claimed that when he was thinner, some filmmakers rejected him because they thought he was too little for their ideal roles.
Okoye stated that despite these difficulties, he is still appreciative of the positions he has been given and happy with his professional progress.
The star of To Kill a Monkey also discussed his experience in Nollywood, remembering how he began with the film Prophet of Darkness in Asaba and encountered numerous difficulties along the road.
He clarified that despite obstacles, he was able to stay focused because of his strong faith and determination.
Okoye went on to say that his acting decisions are influenced by his covenant with God, which is why he steers clear of roles that go against his values or deep kissing sequences.
The Papa Pepe star expressed gratitude for life after overcoming a health crisis earlier in the year, calling 2025 one of his most rewarding years to date.
“Yes, I have lost movie roles several times due to my appearance,” he stated. Ironically, I lost roles when I was smaller because people thought I was too little. But I’m happy and appreciative of every chance. It has always been the direction of God.
