At Eleko Junction on the Lekki–Ajah Expressway in Lagos State, a truck carrying granite crashed over a driver’s Toyota saloon car Thursday morning, killing him and seriously injuring his wife.
Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, signed the statement.
According to preliminary security briefings, a catastrophic brake failure apparently occurred on an articulated truck approaching Eleko Junction while it was heavily loaded with granite and moving at an excessive speed from the Epe axis.
The statement partially stated, “The truck’s sudden loss of vehicle control due to a mechanical failure caused it to veer off its intended course and collide violently with a Toyota saloon car traveling from Ajah inward Epe.”
According to LASTMA, the driver was trapped inside the debris after the truck overturned and crushed the smaller car.
Bystanders allegedly assisted agency and Federal Road Safety Corps officials in rescuing the victims; nonetheless, the male was pronounced dead at the site, and his wife was critically injured and sent to the hospital immediately.
According to the agency, the truck driver left the scene of the collision right away, and Akodo Police Division officers kept the area safe while the rescue effort was underway.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the general manager of LASTMA, called the incident preventable, advised truckers and drivers to maintain their vehicles properly, and cautioned against careless driving.
