According to reports, Prof. George Chima, the chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), was abducted from his Okigwe, Imo State, residence.
The ABSIEC chairman was hosting lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu, when four armed people, who were reportedly kidnappers, broke into his home and took him captive, according to reports acquired by Friday.
The attackers tried to flee with him in his car, which his driver was at the time cleaning, according to individuals who spoke to Vanguard. But their original intention was thwarted when the car refused to start.

According to an eyewitness, the abductors then took control of a passing car that was carrying logs and fled with the ABSIEC chairman.

Maureen Chinaka, the Abia State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, was contacted for comment on the incident and said she would reply to requests from journalists, but she hadn’t done so by the time this story was submitted.

At least five people were killed in Ajegunle-Powerline, which is in Ondo State’s Akure North local government area, as a result of attacks by alleged herdsmen.

Violence against the community has reportedly increased as a result of this occurrence.

The deceased were laborers working in the area’s agriculture, according to Leadership’s sources.

Akin Olowolafe, a local farmer, told reporters in Akure that the attack happened at approximately 3 PM on Tuesday.

Olowolafe voiced his concern about the everyday armed robberies and herdsmen attacks that make life in the area more and more unbearable for locals.

He demanded that the government act immediately.

Fearing about their safety, many farmers have left their farms, he said.

Additionally, he bemoaned the persistent hostilities and the crop loss brought about by the assailants, which have forced farmers in the area to stop farming.

Olowolafe further emphasized that the violent herders are a serious danger to their safety, claiming that these criminals frequently use violence, such as sexual assault and murder, against women they come across on their farms.
