Ibadanland’s modernization would be facilitated by the rule of Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan-designate, according to renowned historian Toyin Falola on Wednesday.
When Mr. Falola gave the inaugural Olubadan coronation lecture in honor of Mr. Ladoja, with the theme “Ibadan History: Issues in Tradition and Modernity,” he made this statement.
Ibadanland’s 44th Olubadan, Mr. Ladoja, will be sworn in on Friday.
According to Mr. Falola, Mr. Ladoja’s background as a politician, statesman, and prosperous businessman will surely contribute to the state’s overall economic growth and well-being.
“The expectations of the people of Ibadan and the state are high because he has the power to influence things to be achievable, even though he is not the governor,” he stated.
Ibadan residents were urged by Mr. Falola to embrace modernization by enhancing environmental hygiene and appropriate garbage disposal.
He also suggested that Ibadanland’s cultural history be promoted, pointing out that the city was linked to modernity and had produced a number of successful people, including legislators, businesswomen, and entrepreneurs.
The lecture’s objectives, according to Amidu Sani, chairman of the coronation lecture committee, were to address misconceptions about Ibadanland’s indigenous population and to highlight the intellectual character of the region.
The lecture was a vital conversation, a time for reflection, and a source of advice for the new Olubadan, according to Bayo Oyero, head of the coronation committee.
“We hope the lecture will not only educate but also help shape Ibadanland’s strategic direction under Oba Rashidi Ladoja’s leadership,” he stated.
