In advance of June 12th, Nigeria’s Democracy Day, the Take It Back Movement has released a list of demonstration locations throughout the nation.
The organization has called on Nigerians to demonstrate against economic hardship, insecurity, and what it claims is the degradation of human freedoms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Juwon Sanyaolu, the movement’s National Coordinator, told Punch on Monday that demonstrations would take place in at least 20 locations around the country, including in the North, South, East, and West.
We’ll meet in Eagle Square in Abuja at 8:00 a.m. “We have four locations in Lagos: Agbara, Maryland, Badagry, and Toll Gate, and they all start at 7:00 am,” he stated.
Other sites are Gida Matasa in Niger State (8 am), Museum Ground in Benin City (9 am), and Cathedral Junction in Akure, Ondo State (8 am).
Several Delta State locations were mentioned by Sanyaolu, including:
The Amukpe Roundabout in Sapele
In Asaba, Summit Junction and Koka Junction
In Ughelli, Otovwodo Junction
Warri’s Effurun Roundabout, PTI Junction, and DSC Roundabout
Abraka’s Police Station Junction

According to the group, the demonstrations are intended to reassert citizens’ rights and demand responsibility.
We are exercising our democratic rights on June 12th. The protection and well-being of the populace are the government’s top priorities, as stated explicitly in the Constitution. “Under Tinubu, that has failed,” Sanyaolu said.
Over 10,000 Nigerians have died as a result of insecurity since Tinubu gained office, he said, citing an Amnesty International report.
More than 40,000 people have been displaced in Benue State, while over 68,000 have been displaced in Plateau. Nigerians are hurting, and the administration doesn’t seem to care,” he remarked.
Additionally, the movement accused the Tinubu administration of stifling free expression and stifling the voices of the opposition.
“The public sphere is being attacked under this administration. Critics of the government are being stalked. We aim to combat this trend and increase awareness,” he continued.
Sanyaolu admonished security forces to defend demonstrators instead of suppressing them.
He went on, “The Supreme Court upholds the freedom to protest, which is guaranteed by the Constitution. It is the responsibility of the police to keep protesters safe.
He urged Nigerians to stand up to poor government and “reclaim the soul of the country.”
