Peter Obi, a former candidate for president of the Labour Party, has grumbled about the rise in killings of security guards nationwide.
He denounced violence against troops, police officers, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps members, and vigilante groups in a statement posted on Tuesday via his 𝕏 Twitter.
The former governor of Anambra State emphasized the need of not undervaluing the sacrifices made by security personnel for the country.
“The alleged tragic killings of our security personnel have sent the nation into mourning once more. The safety and stability of our beloved country have been sacrificed by our men and women in uniform, who have paid the ultimate price in the course of duty,” Obi stated.
Insisting that security must be the cornerstone of governance, he called on leaders at all levels to act immediately to adequately equip and inspire security personnel.

In his view, Nigeria cannot keep burying its security officers and ignoring their families. He emphasized the importance of providing sufficient support and recompense to the surviving officers.
“The duty of providing just compensation and support to the spouses, kids, and parents of these slain warriors must be taken on by our nation. A thankful nation can at least offer that. Not charity, but justice,” Obi continued.
The former governor promised the families of the fallen officers assistance and solidarity while reciting prayers for their souls to rest.
I hope that all fallen heroes can rest in peace. Your patriotism and sacrifice will always be remembered. Don’t worry, families who have been left behind. He ended by saying, “May God continue to give you comfort and strength.”
