The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced Engineer Kale Kawu as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki made the announcement on Saturday.

He said Kawu was a product of extensive consultations with Kwara PDP stakeholders and other gubernatorial aspirants.

The former Governor of Kwara State said other aspirants stepped down and supported the consensus candidate.

“I am pleased to announce that after extensive consultations with the stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and our leading gubernatorial aspirants, we have arrived at a consensus candidate to fly the flag of our great party in the upcoming gubernatorial election.

“That candidate is Engr. Kale Kawu.

“I am deeply grateful to the other aspirants who have generously stepped down to support this consensus in the supreme interest of our party and state. It is this spirit of unity and self-sacrifice that will carry us to victory.

He said, “I wish all our members, delegates and teaming supporters a successful, peaceful and orderly outing at tomorrow’s gubernatorial primaries.”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by Kabiru Turaki has dismissed claims that it stopped presidential aspirants from obtaining nomination forms ahead of the party’s presidential primary election.

The faction’s spokesman, Ini Ememobong, said in a statement on Thursday that the report was misleading and had no foundation.

He said no directive had been given by the party to any official to stop aspirants from joining the process.

He said the Interim National Working Committee (NWC) was not aware of any move by party officials to stop interested contenders from buying the nomination forms.
