The ruling All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has denied issuing an order to incumbent local government chairmen seeking reelection to resign before the 2025 council elections.
Mr Seye Oladejo, the APC Spokesperson, stated in a statement on Monday evening that the alleged directive was fake news intended to deceive the public and party members.
“Our attention has been attracted to a fraudulent direction allegedly issued by the Lagos State Chairman of the APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, urging existing Council Chairmen who wish to seek re-election to resign from their positions.
“We want to make it abundantly clear that there is no iota of truth in the publication, as it was twisted to suit the interest of the publisher,” Oladejo told the newspaper.
The decision was sent to APC Local Government party chairmen seeking elective seats during the upcoming elections to retire, as they cannot be both umpires and contestants.Local government party chairmen, who are also candidates in the next elections, would be compelled to quit when the guidelines are announced.

“We wish to enjoin party members and the general public to refrain from peddling misleading information that can heat the polity,” Oladejo informed the crowd.
He stated that the party was waiting for electoral guidelines from the newly established Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
The spokesperson stated that all party members should continue to encourage activities that foster party unity and understanding.
