Human rights lawyer, Maduabuchi Idam, has accused a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Kenneth Okonkwo of exchanging his brain for his sharp tongue.
Idam was responding to Okonkwo’s rejection of the Atiku-Amaechi’s ADC presidential ticket.
Okonkwo also faulted the ADC’s choice of the South South’s immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi as the running mate of Atiku Abubakar.
ADC Chieftain Vows Not To Campaign For Atiku If Running Mate Is Not Southeast
But Idam in a statement said: “Kenneth Okonkwo, who seems to have swapped his brain for an abnormally sharp tongue, has spoken again. This time, he appears to be talking up a presidential ticket that has provision for the Southeast, either as President or Vice President.
“At face value, one would be tempted to see this as a pan-Igbo position. But the real question was what could really be the cause of his agitation.
“I suspect that at one point he played himself as a possible running mate to Atiku Abubakar, a wild ambition that may have gone a long way in destroying his public image. Greed and an overreaching ambition are the only explanations for how he ever persuaded himself that such a possibility existed.
A man who cannot draw votes beyond himself cannot be seriously thought of as a valuable electoral asset. Whatever his flaws, Atiku would hardly gamble away possible last bid for presidency on such a gamble.”
The human rights lawyer said perhaps the APC is where Okonkwo’s next port of call in politics should be, where his current disposition may find a warmer home.
He also alleged that Okonkwo’s rift with the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi was as a result of his failure to acquire a duplex he was said to have wanted.
“I heard that his relationship with Peter Obi went bad because Obi could not provide the duplex accommodation he allegedly wanted. Not sure that’s right.
“However, if that is all it takes to secure the loyalty of some political actors, then President Tinubu’s camp may be well placed to meet such expectations in exchange for vigorous marketing of an underperforming government.
“In politics convictions are not tested when it’s convenient, but when it’s expensive.
Now the public should be watching for a possible change. “After all, it is the same tongue that can deny anything he has ever said,” he added.
