Since grassroots mobilization is essential to electoral success, Senator Nenadi Usman, the Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, has advised political parties to increase their base of support at the grassroots level in order to improve the credibility of elections.
At a town hall gathering in Abuja, Usman discussed the Electoral Act 2026 and stated that a political party’s ability to succeed or fail at the polling place depends on its presence and level of preparation.
She praised lawmakers for allowing results to be transmitted electronically to INEC’s IReV portal, but pointed out that the amount of debate around Section 60(3) has been overblown.
She emphasized the need for parties to use skilled agents in order to safeguard votes and guarantee accurate results.
Usman advised parties not to rely entirely on INEC but to fortify their internal systems and carry out their duties with diligence.
Party rules should be followed when it comes to Section 84(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires candidate nominations by direct primaries or consensus.
In addition to statutory provisions and institutional mechanisms, she stated that Nigerians’ collective will and vigilance will be crucial to the credibility of the 2027 elections.
