According to reports, armed terrorists have threatened to assault certain towns in Niger State’s Borgu Local Government Area unless they buy food and other necessities.
The armed group reportedly emerged from the Kainji National Park and invaded four communities: Dakara, Gbenji Gidazana, Kpeya/Biyan, and Giragbasso/Imile.
According to reports, the terrorists gave community leaders a total of ₦12 million so they could buy the things they wanted.
Kpeya/Biyan and Giragbasso/Imile villages received ₦2.3 million each, while Dakara village and Gbenji Gidazana village received ₦3.8 million each.
Bags of rice, sugar, salt, cartons of pasta and spaghetti, gallons of palm oil, cooking oil, Maggi spice, and powdered milk are among the things that the armed group demands.
According to reports, a community leader alerted security personnel, which led to a military response in some of the impacted districts.
Some of the assailants were apparently neutralized during the raid, while motorcycles thought to be part of the armed gang were found.
However, the Niger State Police Command declined to respond right away, thus authorities have not yet officially confirmed the occurrence.
