The Oyo State Government has called on traders across the state to sustain unity, peaceful co-existence and cooperation as drivers of a stable and thriving business environment.
Alhaja Faosat Joke Sanni, the Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, made the call while receiving the Babaloja General-in-Council and representatives of the seven geopolitical zones of the state in her office in Ibadan.
The Commissioner welcomed the delegation and said the visit was an opportunity to enhance mutual understanding and to build closer collaboration between the Government and the trading community. “Traders are still one of the key stakeholders in the state’s economic development,” she said, adding that sustained harmony across markets is needed.
Alhaja Sanni also urged market leaders to maintain unity and continue to work closely with the government, noting that there may be differences but dialogue and mutual understanding are key to resolving conflicts and maintaining peace.
She further urged traders to express their concerns through the established leadership structures and assured them of the Ministry’s openness and willingness to address issues affecting their activities. She also cautioned against spreading misinformation and taking steps that could disturb the peaceful atmosphere in markets across the state.
The Commissioner assured the delegation that their requests would be conveyed to Governor Seyi Makinde for consideration, and re-affirmed the administration’s commitment to traders’ welfare and business expansion.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Mr. Olajide Mamud Okesade commended the Babaloja General-in-Council for promoting unity and coordination among traders. He underscored the importance of well-functioning and peaceful markets for economic growth and assured the Ministry of its continued support for efforts to strengthen market systems.
Earlier, the Babaloja General of Oyo State, Alhaji Abass Yekini Oladapo, thanked the Commissioner and the Ministry for the warm reception. He said the council’s constant interactions across the state has brought about unity, cooperation and understanding among traders, while also reiterating its commitment to enhance the welfare of traders and broaden business opportunities in all the 33 Local Government Areas.
The market representatives, on behalf of the seven geopolitical zones, congratulated the Commissioner on her appointment and assured of their continued support for government initiatives. They said the inauguration of Babaloja General-in-Council was a landmark achievement in strengthening market leadership and coordination.
The reps also acknowledged the continuous government efforts to aid traders and increase inclusiveness, while calling for the provision of buses for market zones and the office of the Babaloja General to improve coordination of activities across the state.
