Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has left the African Democratic Congress and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
She announced the development in a statement posted on her 𝕏 handle on Wednesday, it was reported.
The decision was informed by her loyalty to presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, she said.
She also announced her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
She wrote, “The next couple of days will determine the future of this country. That is why I left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to follow the leadership of HE Peter Obi who today epitomizes the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that Works.”
“My initial support for Obi led me to join ADC and my move to NDC is an extension of that support,” she said.
“I keep my word when I give it. My first choice was to support HE Peter Obi, which led me to the ADC. In order to continue to honour the promise, I am joining the NDC,” she added.
Yesufu said she would be joining the NDC and contesting the FCT senatorial seat under the party.
“This time I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one who is contesting for the FCT Senatorial seat,” she wrote.
She also said she had met her obligations to the ADC and made a what she called a “clean transition” and thanked the party members.
“I was lucky to work with great and wonderful people whose goal was a better country. “I am grateful to have been able to serve as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair and secretary at various levels,” she said.
The experience had been “invaluable,” she said, thanking colleagues for their support and cooperation.
