Less than two weeks before the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly primaries, people in the Abia Central Senatorial zone have asked the party’s leaders to back Sam Onuigbo for the 11th Senate.
Onuigbo was a member of the Eighth and Ninth House of Representatives from 2015 to 2023, representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South federal constituencies. He was also the author of Nigeria’s Climate Change Act 2021.
After a meeting in Umuahia, Chief Augustine Anyaegbu led representatives from the six Local Government Areas of the Abia Central Senatorial District. They said they had met to carefully look at the backgrounds, track records, and political power of everyone who wanted to represent the zone in the 11th Senate.
Chief Anyaegbu said, “We have therefore decided to advise the leadership of our great party, APC, to support the aspiration of Sir Sam Onuigbo for the monumental achievements he recorded as a member of the Green Chamber, among other lofty reasons.”
He said that no other APC leader in the zone has brought the party to national and international attention through their legislative skills, stressing that Onuigbo joined the party when it was like a desert in the state.
The stakeholders say that APC should be looking for candidates in Abia State who have the right credentials and a winning aura to help President Bola Tinubu’s candidacy.
“While other modern progressives stayed in their comfort zones, Onuigbo joined the APC and kept supporting and growing the party.” So, when it comes to the Abia Central Senatorial ticket, Sir Sam Onuigbo has the right of first refusal.
“It is also on record that Onuigbo only served two terms in the House of Representatives, even though there is no limit on how long lawmakers can serve.” Because of this history of honesty and fairness, we are sure that Onuigbo will limit his time in the Senate.
“Eight years is more than enough time for any lawmaker who knows what they’re doing to make a difference by representing their constituents well. “We are happy with Onuigbo’s work in the House of Representatives and how he has acted by promoting the benefits of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” the stakeholders said.
The stakeholders asked the party’s national leaders not to give in to the urge to promote a culture of “baboon-dey-work-monkey-dey-chop” in the APC. They also praised the party’s national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, for telling members that visitors would not be allowed to put homeowners in the boys’ quarters.
