“Nigeria is at a point where populism alone cannot elect a president.
Showunmi made this assertion during an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television on Thursday.
Nigerians, he said, would have to examine what they are told.
His statement is coming at a time when different political parties are preparing for their primary election ahead of the general elections in the country next year.
“We have tried to run populist agenda for former president Muhammadu Buhari, and the result is we have complained a lot.
“We are at the point where populism is no longer enough. What did you do? Not saying you’re good at it.
“If we say our problem is the economy and how to make the economy work for the people, then we have to look at the economic credentials of the aspirant,” he said.
