Senator Stella Oduah, a former minister of aviation, was charged with N5 billion in corruption by the Federal Government on Wednesday in the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
Prince Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, put her on trial for five counts of advance fee fraud and conspiracy.
Stella Oduah was charged on one of the charges with collecting N2.4 billion through Broad Waters Resources from the Federal Ministry of Aviation under false pretenses.
It was alleged that she had falsely claimed the money was for technical oversight.
The fraud was allegedly committed in January 2014.
In a different count, Stella Oduah was accused of violating Section 8 of the Advance Fee Fraud Act by allegedly obtaining N1.6 billion and an additional N839 million using the same methods.
However, the former minister contested the accusations and was penalized alongside one other accused.
She was granted bail on self-recognition by Justice Hamza Muazu, who also mandated that she provide the court her travel passport and refrain from leaving Nigeria without the court’s approval.
