The All Progressives Congress (APC) held a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, on Tuesday, but some political thugs broke in.
Internal divides are alleged to have gotten worse as a result of the incident, which happened as tensions inside the ruling party increased over the upcoming state, municipal, and ward congresses to pick new executives.
Several members were injured in the incident, and party leaders were reportedly forced to escape for their lives.
According to reports, the assailants’ indiscriminate pursuit of members caused chaos at the meeting and sparked fear inside the building.
Party leaders, officials, and delegates were gathered to talk about internal issues when the violence started, according to witnesses who spoke to The Nation.
Yet, as discussions were taking place, the attackers entered the party’s secretariat with machetes, planks, shattered bottles, stones, and other deadly items.
According to a party official who spoke on condition of the publication in question, members had already taken up residence when the assailants struck.
He claimed that when they arrived armed and began threatening everyone, we had to flee for our life. Some of us were hurt attempting to get away. In order to protect their vehicles, many that drove to the event quickly left.
The incident was confirmed by Steve Otaloro, the APC’s Director of Media and Publicity in Ondo State, who also stated that more information will be released later.
