Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote was named Director-General of the Nigerian Law School by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday.
Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said in a statement that the four-year appointment will begin on January 10, 2026.
Dr. Odusote, a 54-year-old administrator currently serving as the deputy director-general and head of the Lagos campus, received recognition from the presidency.
Odusote will be the first female leader of the organization since its founding in 1962, according to the presidential spokesperson.
She will take over for Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, the current Director-General, whose eight-year term ends on January 9, 2026.
Titilayo Odusote was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988 after earning her LL.B. from Obafemi Awolowo University. She graduated with an LL.M. in corporation and commercial law from the same university. Later, she earned a PhD in law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom. Her areas of interest were public law and justice administration.
In 2001, she became a lecturer at the Law School. Since then, she has held a number of positions, such as director of academics, head of campus, and head of the academic department.
She spent a brief period of time as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom while attending the Law School.
Odusote has given presentations at several legal education conferences and published extensively in respectable domestic and international legal publications. She was also a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and Council of Legal Education committees.
“Odusote will be in charge of the institution’s overall academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction across all campuses in his capacity as Director-General. Onanuga said on behalf of the presidency, “She will also act as the main point of contact between the school, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.”
