Yilwatda Says Voters Rewarded Performance As APC Wins Ekiti, Dominates By-Elections

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said that the victory of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the Ekiti State Governorship Election and the party’s good performance in the recent bye-elections across the country was a clear vote of confidence in the APC and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Yilwatda, the election results demonstrate that Nigerians can differentiate between the short-term economic challenges associated with reforms, and the long-term benefits of good governance, economic restructuring, infrastructure development and institutional renewal being pursued by the APC at the federal and state levels.

In a statement signed by Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the National Chairman of APC, Yilwatda said: “The massive victory recorded by our great party in Ekiti State and our spectacular success in the bye-elections across the country is a strong endorsement of the APC’s governance philosophy.

The party also had big wins in five of the six bye-elections conducted in different states of the federation.

Yilwatda said the Ekiti outcome further bolstered the APC narrative that performance-based governance was electorally rewarding even amidst difficult economic transitions.

He said: “The Ekiti election has become a national crossroad. It shows that when governments deliver results in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, security and social development, citizens respond with renewed trust and overwhelming electoral support.

The victory sends a clear message that the best route to political legitimacy is governance, not propaganda. “The people of Ekiti have spoken loud and clear in support of continuity, stability and progress,” he said.

APC National Chairman, John Odigie Oyegun, said Ekiti State under Governor Oyebanji had become one of the most compelling governance success stories in contemporary Nigeria with sustained investments in road infrastructure, rural development, human capital advancement, healthcare delivery, agricultural productivity, workers’ welfare and ease of doing business.

As he puts it, the administration has succeeded in creating a broad political consensus and at the same time a razor-sharp focus on development results, thus creating an atmosphere of stability and rapid progress.

“Ekiti today is a shining example of how APC governments are translating public trust into measurable development outcomes. “The developmental strides of the state under Governor Oyebanji is a testimony of our party’s commitment to people-centred governance,” he said.

Yilwatda also observed that the election results should be viewed in the broader national context of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda which is slowly laying the foundation for a more resilient, productive, and globally competitive Nigerian economy.
