A former spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has bemoaned that despite the genius of President Bola Tinubu, he has failed to fix the challenges in the nation.

In an appearance with Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Baba-Ahmed said that Tinubu ought to drop his reelection campaign and look for a younger candidate within his party.

Baba-Ahmed, who quit as special adviser on political matters in the office of the vice president in April, claimed that Tinubu has failed to display the passion to fix the country.

He said, “I’m sorry, but I have to say this again. One of the things I said to a lot of people when I left his administration was, “I wish President Tinubu would not run again in 2027.”

He first stated that becoming president was his goal, which he has already accomplished. He had his turn after saying, “emi lokan.” But I don’t think he has run the country properly.

“The Tinubu we knew, the one with all this cunning knowledge for plotting, hasn’t demonstrated the same desire to make things better.

“He ought to recruit a younger, healthier, more focused candidate within his party to replace him.

He has all the power he needs, but he isn’t in charge of the nation. If he can manage this government, he can persuade all these PDP members to join him.

“Let’s go back to this Trump thing, I didn’t see a president who should respond to an emergency or a challenge in this manner, with the manner and spirit that he should. I failed to notice it. And it’s not limited to this problem.

“The truth is that Nigeria has deteriorated so badly that we cannot continue to run things as if they’re normal.”
