President Bola Tinubu’s new security plan, according to former vice presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, is “a joke” that ignores the true sources of insecurity.

Datti claimed that Tinubu’s proclamation of a national security emergency “has missed the point completely” during an appearance on Arise News.

He maintained that the government’s strategy was crooked, wasteful, and wrong.

“He has totally missed the point.”

“This state of emergency designation is absurd. “Leave it at that,” he remarked.

Speaking further, Baba-Ahmed disapproved with the President’s proposal to quickly hire and train thousands of new employees.

He believed that a shortage of personnel was not the source of the country’s security crisis.

It has nothing to do with numbers. In the fight against insecurity itself, the goal is to lessen corruption.

How much of the funds allocated for security will actually go into the fight, and how much will go toward the elections in 2027? Nigeria will become safe if that corruption is eliminated, he contended.

He asserted that the police could quickly eradicate banditry provided they were not subject to political meddling.

“Disband the Nigerian military. In two months, insecurity can be eliminated by the Nigerian police alone. Give them support, eliminate political interest, and eradicate corruption, and they will succeed,” he declared.

Baba-Ahmed stated, “This government is skating on thin ice,” in reference to the administration’s overall performance. You can’t believe how thin the ice is. We are in a dangerous position.
